New Year, New Word

Monday, December 28, 2015

As we near the end of 2015, I should recap my year and revisit my 'little word for the year', and introduce 2016.

Previously, this was covered on my old blog, The Mrs Makes. For Curious Tonic readers, here is what I expected of 2015:

"I don't make resolutions as I dislike the negativity of saying 'no' to things. Instead, I shall be saying 'yes' to new and different things in 2015.

My Little Word for 2015 is Embrace. EMBRACE 2015: Journey through 2015 with an open mind and accepting soul, ready to embrace change, seek new experiences and challenge the norm.

I have a feeling 2015 will be my year to explore a little, and I aim to do so with an open mind, arms and eyes. I don't want to miss a thing.

And explore I did. Chamonix, Liverpool, Cornwall, Wales, Iceland, and even my new neighbourhood in Sheffield. You don't need to go far to discover new things. I was absolutely thrilled this year to be able to travel and stretch my wanderlusting legs a little. I learnt to ski and climb in places I'd never visited and did so eager to try new things.

Upon finalising my divorce, I sold my old house and moved back to the city which taught me so much. Sheffield was my home for 7 years, and despite an 18 month break as soon as the opportunity arose to return, I did. I rented a house in an up-and-coming area of the city which is full of creative independents, and immediately felt at home.

A new job was swiftly followed by another, and I've settled into the new role. It's walking distance from home, and allows me to learn and develop daily. It has also allowed me to start a new business - Patisserie Rose. In just three months we have a stable turnover, a photoshoot feature on a top wedding blog, are a member of the Boho Wedding Directory and have an established mail-order service. A couple of weddings are booked in for next year and we can't wait to grow.

And finally, to save the round-up from getting too lengthy, I was able to do all of the above with a rather lovely man by my side. My biggest cheerleader and constant support he's made my year wonderful and I wouldn't have changed any of it for the world.

And so, onto my word for 2016...

In 2016 I am making it my mission to grow into my new life. I'd like to finish decorating my house to create a home for starters and use the space more effectively to accommodate our kit and business alike.

I'd like to practice being a little braver and broaden my friendship group. This year has been super busy and as a consequence I haven't made the time I should for making friends. Whilst busy is good, lonely is not. I'm planning on doing more of what makes me happy, and spending time with my favourite people.

On a more boring note, I'm hoping to tackle my finances and make some solid investment moves for the future. I want to work towards my own goals over the next few years, and invariably they do not come cheap.

So there it is. My little word. I'm hoping some direction this year will help me focus, stop worrying quite so much and embrace all the exciting things to come.
